PRIVATE FINANCE LOAN

Private finance: an option for when other doors are closed, explained plainly

Private finance is not for everyone, and it is not where we start. It costs more than a bank, and the provider matters a great deal. If banks and NBFCs have said no, here is how it works, what it costs, and how we help you avoid the wrong provider.

Atlanta Group is not a lender. The bank or NBFC decides on approval, rate, fees and terms. Approval is never guaranteed.

Private finance at a glance

What it is
A loan from an NBFC or a registered private lender, often after a bank has said no
Who provides it
NBFCs registered with RBI and money lenders registered under state law; unregistered lenders should be avoided
Who it may suit
People with a genuine short-term need and a clear way to repay, who cannot get bank credit for now
Security
Some loans are unsecured; others ask for property, cheques or a guarantor
Cost
Set by each provider and usually higher than a bank. Compare the total repayment in writing before you decide.
What providers assess
Current income and bank statements, existing loans, the purpose, any security, and the credit report
Our role
We begin by listening to what happened and what you need the money to do. We look first at whether a bank or NBFC route is still open. Where it is the better fit, we identify, where available, two to three options from the registered providers we work with and walk you through each one's terms, interest rate, tenure and total cost. A dedicated relationship manager supports you from your first call through to disbursement. Atlanta Group is not a lender. The provider makes the final decision on every application.

What is a private finance loan?

A private finance loan is a loan from a provider outside the mainstream bank route, usually an NBFC or a money lender registered under state law, that is willing to look at a profile a bank has turned down. It tends to cost more, run for a shorter tenure and ask for more security or cheques than a bank loan. Used carefully, it can bridge a real need. Used for the wrong reason, or taken from the wrong provider, it can make things harder, so who you borrow from matters as much as whether you are approved.

Who provides private finance?

Most legitimate lending of this kind comes from two kinds of provider. NBFCs are companies registered with the Reserve Bank of India and follow its rules on lending, disclosure and recovery. Money lenders are registered under their state's money-lending law, which sets its own licence and conduct rules. Informal lenders with no registration are a different thing: there is no written protection and no proper complaint route, which is why we work only with registered providers.

Private finance or a bank loan?

Who lendsBank or NBFC on the mainstream route; NBFC or registered money lender for private finance
ApprovalBanks rely heavily on credit score and policy; private providers look more at current income and security
CostUsually lowest at a bank; usually higher with private finance, sometimes much higher
TenureBanks offer longer tenures; private finance is usually shorter, so EMIs can be higher
SecurityUnsecured bank loans need a good record; private finance often asks for cheques, property or a guarantor
Best useBank credit for long-term needs; private finance for a short, defined need with a clear repayment plan

When private finance may make sense, and when it does not

It may make sense when a bank or NBFC has declined you for now, the need is real and short-term, and you can show how you will repay, such as from expected income or the sale of an asset. It usually does not make sense for long-term borrowing, for paying off other expensive debt unless the total cost actually falls, or when the repayment would stretch your income. If your credit record is the only obstacle, our Low CIBIL Loan page explains other routes worth trying first.

How to check a private finance provider

Before you share documents or sign anything, ask for the provider's full legal name and registration. For an NBFC, check it on RBI's list of registered NBFCs or the RBI Sachet portal. For a money lender, ask for the state licence and its number. Insist on a written agreement that shows the amount, rate, tenure, every charge and the total repayment. Be wary of anyone who asks for a fee before the loan is paid out, deals only over WhatsApp or UPI, or asks for blank signed cheques.

What does private finance cost?

Each lender sets its own rate from your profile, the security, the tenure and its own policy, and it is usually higher than a bank. Look beyond the rate at processing charges, any fee for cheque bounces or late payment, charges for closing early, and how the interest is calculated, since a monthly flat rate can cost far more than it sounds. Ask for the Key Fact Statement from an RBI-regulated lender, or written terms showing the total repayment from a money lender, and compare two or three before you decide.

Who is eligible for private finance?

Lenders look mostly at whether you can repay now: steady salary or business income, bank statements that show it, the EMIs you already pay, and any security you can offer. The credit report is still checked, and recent defaults or many new enquiries make it harder. A co-applicant, property or a smaller amount can help where income alone is not enough.

What documents do you need?

SalariedKYC and PAN, recent salary slips, salary account bank statements and the employer's details
Self-employedKYC and PAN, business proof, bank statements, and income tax returns where available
If property is offeredTitle documents and the chain of ownership, tax receipts and an approved plan where applicable
Also helpfulDetails of existing loans and any letter explaining a past default or settlement

Secured private finance: what is at risk?

Some private finance is given against property, which can allow a larger amount or a better rate. If you pledge property, it is at risk if repayments are missed, and the lender can take steps to recover its money from it. Read the security terms carefully, and compare with a loan against property from a bank or NBFC first; our Loan Against Property page explains that route.

How long does private finance take?

It depends on the lender, how complete your documents are and whether property is involved. Unsecured cases are generally quicker; property-backed ones take longer because of the legal and valuation checks. The timeline below is an indicative planning guide, not a guarantee. The provider decides, and we cannot promise a date.

Indicative timeline

Initial discussionSame day
Document collection and preliminary analysisAbout 1–2 working days after we receive your documents
Provider shortlisting and application preparationAbout 1–3 working days, depending on document readiness
Provider assessment and verificationAround 3–10 working days or more; longer with property
Sanction and acceptanceDepends on the provider
DisbursalDepends on the provider and completion of formalities

How is the EMI calculated on a private finance loan?

Your EMI depends on three things: the amount, the interest rate and the tenure. The standard formula is EMI = P x r x (1+r)^n divided by ((1+r)^n - 1), where P is the loan amount, r is the monthly interest rate and n is the number of monthly instalments. If a lender quotes a flat rate, ask for the reducing-balance equivalent, because a flat rate charges interest on the full amount for the whole tenure. Our EMI Calculator helps you compare.

What mistakes should you avoid?

Borrowing from a lender who cannot show a registration. Paying any fee before the loan is paid out. Signing blank cheques or an agreement you have not read. Comparing only the monthly EMI and not the total repayment. Pledging property for a need that could wait. Taking private finance to pay off other loans without checking that the total cost falls.

Frequently asked questions

Can I borrow money from private lenders?

Yes, if the lender is registered, either as an NBFC with RBI or as a money lender under state law. Check the registration, get the terms in writing and compare the total repayment. Approval still depends on the provider's assessment of your income and profile.

Is private finance safe?

It can be, with a registered provider and a clear written agreement. The risks come from unregistered lenders, fees asked before disbursal, blank cheques and unclear terms. If something feels wrong, stop and check the provider before you go further.

Can I get private finance without a CIBIL check?

Registered providers usually still check your credit report, though they may weigh current income and security more than the score. Treat any offer of a loan with no checks at all as a warning sign.

Can self-employed people without ITR get private finance?

Sometimes. Some providers accept bank statements and business proof in place of income tax returns, often with security or a smaller amount. Filing returns from now on widens your options later.

Are private finance loan apps safe?

Some are, many are not. A genuine app names the NBFC or bank it lends for, and that lender appears on RBI's registered list. Avoid apps that ask for access to your contacts and photos, or charge a fee before paying out.

Can private finance improve my CIBIL score?

Repaying any reported loan on time helps over time, but not every private lender reports to credit bureaus. Ask whether the loan will be reported. Paying on time and clearing old dues are what rebuild your record.

Where do you arrange private finance?

We help customers in several cities. In Delhi NCR we work across Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon and Faridabad; see our Delhi NCR private finance page.

What can I do if a private lender treats me unfairly?

For an RBI-regulated lender, complain to the lender first and then to the RBI Integrated Ombudsman. For an unregistered lender, report it on RBI's Sachet portal or the national cybercrime portal, and to the police if you are threatened.

Is Atlanta Group a lender?

No. Atlanta Group is a financial solutions and loan facilitation company, in business since 2010. Loans are provided by our associated banks, NBFCs and private finance providers, who decide on eligibility, approval, rates, fees and terms. We help you understand your options and guide your documents and application. Approval is never guaranteed.

Written by the Atlanta Group team, which has helped people explore loan options since 2010. Last updated 4 November 2026. We do not quote interest rates or name providers here because terms change and differ by provider. Confirm the provider's registration and the full written terms before you decide.
