'Settled' means the lender accepted less than the full amount to close the account. 'Written-off' means the lender has taken the debt off its books as a loss, but you may still owe it. Both can make a new loan harder.
Which is worse?
Lenders usually treat both as warning signs. Details differ by lender, and we do not promise any effect on your score or on approval.
Can I get the entry removed?
An accurate entry is not removed because you ask. If the report shows a wrong status, you can dispute it. See CIBIL Report Rectification.
What helps afterwards?
Clear any dues you still owe, ask the lender for a closure or no-dues letter, keep every later EMI on time and avoid many new applications. Check your report for the corrected status.
Can I still get a loan?
It is harder and options narrow, but some lenders may look at your current profile. See Low CIBIL Loan.
