A first-time borrower has no credit history, so lenders look harder at income, job or business stability and documents. Start by borrowing only what you can repay comfortably.
What do lenders check?
Income, existing EMIs, employment or business stability, identity and address, and your credit record. With no record, a lender may offer a smaller amount or ask for more proof.
Which documents will I need?
Identity and address proof, income proof such as salary slips or business statements, and bank statements. The list differs by lender and loan type.
How do I build a record?
Pay every bill and EMI on time, keep card use low and apply only when you need to. Each application can leave an enquiry on your report.
What mistakes should I avoid?
Borrowing the maximum offered, ignoring fees, not reading the terms, and paying anyone to guarantee approval. No one can guarantee it.
